What We Believe

United Methodists profess the Christian faith in God who became human in Jesus Christ. These beliefs include:

  • An emphasis on the grace and love of God freely given
  • We believe in the Trinity—the One God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit
  • We believe that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God
  • We believe that salvation is a gift that is ours through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
  • We believe that by the teaching and example of Jesus, we can come to know who God is and how to live as faithful disciples
  • We believe in the Holy Spirit, counselor and advocate who Jesus promised to send and to be with us always
  • We believe this Holy Spirit is active in our lives at all times, even when we do not know it
  • We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and contains everything necessary for salvation
  • We affirm the ancient creeds of the Christian Church 
  • We believe in two sacraments: Holy Communion to which all are invited and welcome; and Baptism once in a lifetime at any age  (See worship page for more information on Sacraments)
  • We believe faith is made evident in service to others both locally and globally
  • We respect the diversity of opinions held by conscientious persons of faith.  We follow Wesley’s approach, “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”
  • We covenant together whenever anyone joins to support the ministries of the church through our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness
